This image is a real-time capture from FlightSafety's popular VITAL X visual simulation system. The oil rig was developed for one of FlightSafety's many commercial helicopter customers. Utilizing the VITAL X's photo realistic scene, the 3D ocean, and the dynamic shadows this customer can properly and safely train every possible maneuver in the flight simulator before attempting critical operations on the actual rig. This database was created using a variety of COTS and FlightSafety authored tools. The added realism is a result of new techniques recently developed by FlightSafety's experienced modeling team.
