BUDIMIR ZVOLANEK
Associate Technical Fellow
Electronic Systems Design & Analysis Engineer
The Boeing Company

Budimir Zvolanek is a Boeing Associate Technical Fellow with lifelong dedication to simulation - as well as exploitation - of distributed networked sensor data and displays electronics. Currently, he is responsible for technology planning and maturation of these and other network-centric communications technologies on the Future Combat Systems program and has consulted for Boeing Global Combat Systems international programs development.

Previously, Budimir was a subject matter expert in visual/sensor image simulation and correlated database development at Boeing Training Systems and Services (TSS). At the TSS Visual Integrated Display System (VIDS) Product Center, he was the Integrated Product Team Leader for Distributed Mission Training (DMT) F-15C database development, the VIDS Systems Engineer for the Finland F-18 Weapons & Tactics Situational Assessment Trainer, a Principal Investigator for correlated visual/sensor/NVG simulation R&D, a Manager of Project 2851 Standard Simulator Data Base CRAD programs, and an in-country consultant to TSS international business development in Europe.

At McDonnell Aircraft Flight Simulation, Budimir played a key role as designer of radar and infrared image real-time generation hardware, software, databases, and cockpit displays. At McDonnell Douglas Astronautics and Boeing Phantom Works, he developed innovative automatic target recognition and image processing algorithms for aircraft and missiles. And at Washington University in St. Louis, where he also received his MS and BS degrees in Electrical Engineering, Budimir developed innovative image acquisition and processing hardware and software for biomedical applications in hospitals.

Budimir has published extensively on sensor simulation and exploitation, having received two I/ITSEC Conference Best Paper Award nominations for "DoD Standard Simulator Database Project 2851 Correlation Testing" and "Geo-Specific Weather-Dependent Diurnal Infrared Image Simulation".

Budimir has been a dedicated participant in IMAGE Society since 1992 as Chairman of the IMAGE Society Special Interest Group (SIG) on Networked Simulation, acting Chairman of other IMAGE SIGs, paper presenter, and clarinetist seen improvising with the IMAGENEERS Jazz Combo for the 2008 IMAGE Conference reception entertainment.
